Strategic Thinking

Strategy is a word we love to use, yet rarely understand

What’s the difference between strategy and tactics?

It’s all a matter of context.

If you ask most people to define the meaning of strategy, more than likely they’ll struggle. Across all sorts of organisations I’ve learnt that strategy is a word we love to use, yet rarely pause to truly understand.

Strategy is a plan of action to achieve major aims.

Both tactics and strategy require moving our thoughts into action. The difference is in the scale of your aims. So when you’re strategically planning, avoid the mistake of spending all your strategic thinking energy on how best to get there. Also invest time and collaborative effort on increasing clarity and alignment of where it is you’re actually aiming to get.

Majorly.

Focusing on the critical gap between purpose and tactics. Zooming in closer than vague purposeful ambitions such as to make a difference. While avoiding getting stuck in the tactical details of individual ambitions and requirements.

Instead shift the context by facilitating your group’s conversation to explore tangible measurable outcomes that matter across your organisation. And beyond.

Strategically.
